Joint venture to use solar to combat fuel poverty in UK

Today a joint venture, named ‘AMP Solar UK’ has been launched to combat UK fuel poverty.

Launched by four companies, AMP Solar UK aims to develop 300MW of rooftop and ground mount solar, focusing on bringing solar systems to social housing.

Housing developers, commercial landlords to housing associations can purchase solar systems from AMP Solar UK to produce an income from solar generation.

AMP Solar will also offer a no-cost, managed installation with Power Purchase Agreements (PPA). PPAs will be fixed cost for 20 years, and residents will receive heavily discounted energy.

AMP Solar UK hopes to provide clean, cheap energy as well as new income sources for tenants, including 75,000 tenants to be lifted out of fuel poverty.

The joint venture is between marketing firm, MAP Environmental, and solar asset developer, AMP Solar Group, financed by Apollo Investment Corporation, with Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC), and Operations and Maintenance (O&M), to be undertaken by Sustain Energy Solutions.
