Next British government must encourage solar, says REA

The Renewable Energy Association (REA) has said the next British government must “encourage” solar if it is to achieve its potential and reach grid parity.

Parliament has been dissolved ahead of the General Election on 7th May in what has been dubbed the most evenly contested election of a generation, with each of the three main parties having adopted differing energy policies.

However, REA chief executive Dr Nina Skorupska has called on whichever party is successful next month to help solar reach its full potential with its policy decisions.

“We call on the next British government to encourage the ongoing deployment of solar and development of storage which could be viable in the UK as early as 2017 by levelling the regulatory playing field for developers, in particular through ensuring sufficient support is forthcoming to ensure a viable industry is in place when grid parity is reached,” Skorupska said.
