Energy Company Obligation (ECO) Funding

The Energy Company Obligation is a government-led programme that is designed to fund approximately £1.3 billion of energy efficiency improvements in people’s homes each year. In essence, it requires energy companies to provide financial support for energy saving measures that will ultimately help to reduce national carbon emissions.

Importantly, ECO can work in conjunction with the Green Deal, particularly when it is aimed at more vulnerable members of society (such as older people or those on low incomes) or when it involves hard to treat properties in which cavity wall insulation cannot be installed. The financial assistance can be directed from the energy supplier to the customer or via registered Green Deal Providers.
